Europe’s largest privately-owned wine estate, Codorníu will be bringing the buzz of Barcelona to London’s Columbia Wharf this summer. Codorníu is Spain’s oldest family-run business, and the first Spanish company to produce sparkling wine using the traditional method with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

Anna de Codorníu – a combination of the aforementioned traditional Catalan, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, is named after the last family member to use the Codorníu surname. Currently available only on-trade, five million bottles of Anna have been sold world-wide. With such impeccable pedigree, Anna de Codorníu is well qualified to share and promote the knowledge of Cataluñan food and drink with the launch of The Cordoníu Summer School; a series of events inspired by Spanish city life.

‘Spainishphiles’ can book paella masterclasses and weekly Fizz Nights that explore the full range of Anna Caves, both hosted on the terrace of the 17th century Columbia Wharf building at Doubletree Hilton London Docklands.

Every Thursday throughout August and September, the Fizz School masterclass will explore the extensive Anna de Codorníu range. The classes are scheduled to take place on the terrace overlooking the Thames – fine if our notoriously fickle summer weather decides to play ball! If not, there is always the library, a fitting venue for gaining your Cava knowledge.

While your paella skills will be perfected via a tour of Cataluñan cuisine. The workshops can be booked for between four -six  people – which makes for an alternative evening out; bookings include a cooking lesson and a bottle of Cava per group.

Far cheaper than a trip to Barcelona, attending a class at Anna de Cordorníu Terrace on the Thames is an ideal way of embracing Cataluñan food and drink culture, who says that schools out for summer?!
