Summer is (finally) here, as the temperature continues to rise and the sun’s rays become more intense throughout the day, it is imperative that we take care of our skin. Thankfully, nutritional expert and founder of Nosh Detox, Geeta Sidhu-Robb, has compiled her top tips on the best natural remedies to protect skin and heal sunburn. Accessible and affordable – you may already have some of these remedies in your kitchen such as dairy products and oatmeal.
Use dairy: Dairy products are great to help soothe sore, sunburnt skin. Yoghurt works most effectively, with the protein forming a protective layer that will help ease sunburn.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E is known to reduce inflammation. Vitamin E will work effectively by taking it as either a supplement or by rubbing the burnt area with oil.
Black Tea: Black tea is a great way to help rebalance the pH of the burnt area. Simply brew some black tea (allowing plenty of time to cool) and then gently dab onto the burnt area.
Fresh Aloe Vera: Fresh aloe vera contains high levels of zinc which will help reduce inflammation that has been caused by sunburn. Preferably use an aloe vera gel, which can be gently massaged onto the sunburnt area.
Oatmeal: Oatmeal works as a natural anti-inflammatory when mixed with bath water. Simply ground oatmeal and pour into a filled bath and soak!
Restore Moisture: Sunburnt skin can become increasingly dry as it begins to peel; your skin will be crying out for moisture. Ensure that you use an everyday body moisturiser on sunburnt area.
