There are at least 14 different types of yoga: as a self –confessed non –yoga enthusiast this came as a little surprising, how may variations of the downward dog does one need?

Jivamukti Yoga is a proprietary style of yoga created by New Yorkers’, David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984. In addition to embracing the obligatory spiritual side, practitioners are also encouraged to be sympathetic towards animal rights, veganism, environmentalism and social activism.

London –based Jivamukti & Vinyasa Flow Yoga Teacher, Diouldé F. Diallo, was a meat –eating, cigarette smoking, and real fur wearing fashionista, before a friend implored her to try out a Jivamukti Yoga class in New York’s Union Square. Three years on, Diouldé launched, In the Zone Yoga and has transformed her life with aplomb – no more, fags, and fur; Diouldé is also a strict vegan who has turned her back on her former five –a-day caffeine habit.

Although the lifestyle aspects of Jivamukti Yoga may at first appear daunting, Diouldé is determined to make the teachings more accessible with both one –to-one teaching and hands-on assistance.

If a former smoker with an excessive caffeine addiction can transform their life there is definitely hope for the rest of us.

Diouldé teaches Jivamukti Yoga at South Kensington Club and at Bikram Yoga London, she also teaches private classes. For further information please visit: Instagram: ZeDioulde.
