As a firm believer of maintaining good health through food, I applaud the Mindful Chef’s business model of providing a healthy recipe box delivery service. Launched in 2015 by friends Myles Hooper and Giles Humphries, the Mindful Chef follows the Swedish example of providing healthy meals for busy folk. Naturally this concept has been well received where time –poor professionals reside, think: Manchester and London. Furthermore, recipe box deliveries take away the hassle of shopping and cooking, promising all the ingredients needed to a make a quick meal at the end of a long day with no waste.
The recipe boxes contain no refined carbs or refined sugars, are both dairy and gluten – free. While locally sourced fresh, organic produce, and award –winning organic meat and fish are also featured. Vegans and vegetarians are also well catered to with plenty of delicious recipes.
As cold and flu season is still prevalent, Mindful Chef is helping to boost their customer’s immune systems with medicinal ingredients such as:
Garlic. Not only does garlic add amazing flavour but it also helps to eliminate toxins and the oils can be used to treat colds and coughs.
Sweet potato. There is one days’ worth of your beta-carotene and vitamin C requirements in one sweet potato. Bake or roast one immediately to help strengthen your immune system and develop resistance to infection.
Mushrooms. Provide a good source of B vitamins and are one of few non-animal sources of vitamin D. They are anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and boost your immune defences.
Ginger. Strong in both flavour and immune boosting power! Ginger is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, helps eliminate congestion and eases symptoms of cold & flu.
Spinach. Packed with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, spinach triggers immune responses to fight infection and helps maintain healthy white blood cells.
Broccoli. Broccoli has more vitamin C than many citrus fruits – if you don’t overcook it! Steaming is best to re-invigorate ageing immune systems and detoxifying.
Honey. Winnie the Pooh was onto something here. Raw honey has many medicinal properties due to its high level of vitamin C,D,E & K. Honey works as a natural antibiotic and antiseptic and as such helps fight respiratory infections.
Peppers. Have twice as much vitamin C than most citrus fruits! Eating peppers help maintain healthy skin and eyes and the antioxidants and beta-carotene help boost your immune system.
Blueberries. The ultimate immune boosting super -food! Blueberries are super high in antioxidants, vitamin C & A.
Turmeric. One of the foods with the highest antioxidants & anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric reduces fever and is packed with anti-viral & anti-fungal properties!
Say no to cold and flu, by giving your immunity a boost with foods packed with natural medicinal ingredients.
