With National Pie Day approaching 23rd January, asking “who ate all the pies?” Is a legitimate question, to acknowledge this pending pastry fest, check out the scrumptious pies on offer at the following establishments, hopefully there will be enough to go around!
Where? The Plowden Arms
Go for: a winter warmer ideal for these chilly evenings; try the Stalkers Pie: chunks of slowly braised venison with garlic, carrots and onions, paired with a rich tomato and red wine sauce. Covered with, fluffy puff pastry topping, served with crusty homemade bread and seasonal greens.
Where? The Churchill Arms
Go for: the Chicken & Mushroom Pie served with creamy mash, sourced from local ingredients. Enjoy this comforting British classic in the cosy confines of this quintessential country pub.
Go for: Stewart’s Duck Vindaloo Pie named after Mark Stewart, a close friend of Chef Abdul Yaseen, who has merged traditional Indian spices and flavours with traditional British fare. Ingredients include: top quality Gressingham duck from Britain and palm vinegar from Goa.
Where? The cheekily named Ma’Plucker
Go for: the infamous Cherry Pie filled with sour cherries complemented with vanilla ice cream. The Cherry Pie also features in Ma’Plucker’s alternative afternoon tea which comprises of: mini burgers, sweet treats and boozy ice tea.
