The Market Cartel was created out of my love and passion for the vintage fashion and market trade world. I hear stories everyday about the memories and crazy times on the markets during the 60’s and 70’s. The history is overwhelming and beautiful. Being young, or at least the youngest trader on Portobello, I obviously was not around to enjoy these years. Seeing how the markets are changing; the world in fact, I feel I have a duty. Being a part of the next generation, I have to keep the tradition alive! The Market Cartel is my contribution. The ethos behind The Market Cartel is to inspire style, create future business for traders, along with creating future history and most importantly continue the street market legacy.image

I do believe that most people do not know or realize where the idea, design, or history of the pieces bought and worn today springs from. Vintage is a crucial and very interesting part of modern fashion, from last seasons’ catwalk shows to the most affordable high street shops. Most of all collections, from the most unique to the most basic, are normally copied from vintage; either the print, cut, fabric, or the colour and so on. Every big fashion company or design house has a large annual budget for sourcing and purchasing vintage pieces in order to provide inspiration. If you ask me, I would rather have the original – it’s probably going to be a lot more affordable in comparison to what the high end designers charge.image

If a vintage ‘inspired’ item is purchased on the high street, the vintage original is generally better quality – after all its lasted this long!

The Market Cartel is an online marketplace that brings established and interesting market traders together to offer a unique and exciting opportunity for consumers to shop the great markets of London and soon to include other great global cities. Our market traders, come from markets such as the infamous Portobello Road Market to the classic Spitalfields, and all the great markets in between. The traders are amongst the most prominent dealers in London, some also own their own shops. Most of the traders have been in the industry for 10 -15 plus years and continue to inspire ‘original’ collections and style trends today.
The Market Cartel offers interesting womenswear, menswear, jewellery, and fun accessories. It is worth checking in often, as we are always adding traders, and exciting new inventory.image

Some exciting news, we now have a physical shop in Hackney, opened just last month. The shop is an extension of  our online store; most of the traders online, are also selling in the shop. The shop has many pieces including: homeware, furniture, art, glass, unique objects, which we will soon make available online. Visit us, we are always happy to give a good deal!

The Market Cartel is for the individual that loves shopping at London’s markets but can’t always visit, we are also for the fashionista that does not live in London. In addition we are a platform for traders that have always wanted to sell online, but don’t know how. We are also an online directory for international vintage buyers; we showcase who’s who and where to find them. The Market Cartel is for the fashion lover, who is inspired by the editorials we shoot, such as the well -received, ‘How to wear vintage’… If you are in London come play dress up. The Market Cartel is not just your average e-com site, flogging vintage, we have access to history achieved via collaborations with the best traders. We are market traders doing it our own way, the Cartel way.image
