A CULINARY craze is taking off in the UK which involves putting spoonfuls of grass-fed butter like Kerrygold into your morning coffee.

Called ‘Bulletproof Coffee,’ it started as a low-key health kick for a small minority. The benefits are phenomenal, with weight loss, protection against fatigue, speedier metabolism and antioxidants to name but a few.

Those who swear by the buttery drink, which gives your body an instant health boost, even have a preferred butter – Ireland’s very own Kerrygold. Drinkers are choosing Kerrygold’s unsalted butter – on sale across the UK – after a public recommendation by Bulletproof Coffee guru Dave Asprey.

Kerrygold is favoured as the natural product is made from milk produced by grass-fed cows free to graze the lush Irish countryside. Grass-fed butter is rich in fatty acids and betacarotenes, which are good for the immune system and brain. It’s also full of vitamin K2, omega-3’s and antioxidants.

All you need to make Bulletproof Coffee is coffee beans, Kerrygold Unsalted Butter and Brain Octane Oil, similar to coconut oil but eighteen times stronger.

The addition of good fat, in the butter and coconut oil, alongside a double shot of metabolism speeding caffeine, will slow the digestive development and release a more gentle and longer lasting coffee hit.

Asprey’s buttery-drink invention was born out of a visit to Tibet, where putting butter in tea has long been a tradition. He said he was immediately revitalised and “literally rejuvenated” by the refreshment.

The drink is also claimed to help those who are dieting or trying to live clean and healthy lifestyles by keeping people full for longer.

So popular is Kerrygold-infused Bulletproof Coffee in the USA right now that the whole country ran out of the famous Irish butter.

Asprey says that Kerrygold is the most “compliant” butter for his coffee because it is unsalted, contains high quantities of omega-3 and the cows are fed on pesticide-free grass. He added: “Kerrygold cows are not given antibiotics or growth hormones. Kerrygold doesn’t use pesticides in their pastures. Irish dairy cows graze outdoors on grass all day long for up to 312 days a year. In fact, Irish cows graze on grass for longer than almost every country in the world.”

Irish dairy farmers famously do not use mechanical irrigation systems like other countries, as Ireland is swept by Atlantic rain carrying water, which is pure and unpolluted and provides natural irrigation.image

Aficionados say Bulletproof Coffee is hot, frothy and creamy – much like drinking a latte, only more buttery.

Gemma Singh, Kerrygold brand manager, said:

“We’re delighted that people can see how important it is to include healthy fats in your diet. It’s no surprise that Kerrygold is used for Bulletproof Coffee – we work with small cooperative farms where the cows’ diet consists of pesticide-free grass, as they graze outdoors on the lush Irish meadows up to 312 days a year.”

How to make a Bulletproof Coffee

  1. Brew your coffee to your preferred coffee method, with water just off the boil, and 2 ½ heaped tablespoons of freshly ground coffee.
  2. Add 1-2 tablespoons of Kerrygold Unsalted Butter.
  3. Pour in 1-2 tablespoons Brain Octane Oil (or high-grade coconut oil).
  4. Mix in a blender until the Kerrygold Unsalted Butter and coconut oil are emulsified. The coffee should be frothy and look like a creamy latte.
