Bermondsey Square hit the headlines during the tail end of last year due to its policy of removing alcohol and pork from the menu – a rather controversial move if the sensational reporting from the Daily Mail is anything to go by. The reason for this decision was to do with the hotels’ new ownership, however, despite hysterical news reports, Bermondsey Square is not subject to ‘Sharia Law’ – alcohol is not permitted from the premises;  guests can bring their own booze which is not such a bad thing considering inflated mini –bar prices! In addition, same –sex couples are very much welcome.Bermondsey Square Hotel

Being of the pescatarian persuasion pork being absent from the menu does not bother me, I would be more than content with Bermondsey Squares’ offering of: Smoked mackerel pate, served alongside beetroot Carpaccio & grilled flat pita bread; Grilled squid, tomato & oregano salsa accompanied with side salad; Fish & chips, peas & tartar sauce; and the Grilled fish of the day, with side salad. The wholesome dishes Bermondsey Square prides itself on also includes: Forrest mushroom penne pasta & garlic pangriatta; Angus beef burger, brioche, cheese, chips; Marinated sirloin steak (wholegrain mustard & rosemary), chips & green beans; Roast chicken & tarragon sausages with cannellini beans and paprika casserole, to name but a few of the choices.

Bermondsey Square makes for an ideal city break, and meeting place – with friends, work colleagues or business associates in the hotels’ informal lounge where complimentary filter coffee and breakfast tea can be enjoyed between 11 am-5 pm, home-made cakes and pastries from the pantry are also available. Business travellers will also appreciate the new versatile meeting space accommodating up to 20 people in a fixed boardroom layout, complete with cutting-edge, click-share technology.
