Street food markets appear to be eclipsing the traditional bric –a – brac market once synonymous with London life, Urban Food Fest, are considered one of the best purveyors of street food with markets in Shoreditch and Manchester’s Deansgate. Although only launched in 2013, Urban Food Fest is at the top of its game with a ranking as the number one ‘Hot Spot’ by Time Out and acknowledged as the No.1 Thing to Do according to the Daily Telegraph.

This Saturday (22nd August) will feature Levi Roots in a special Carnival themed Urban Food Fest. In addition to serving up Jamaican street food keen musician Levi will be performing live.

The pre-Carnival celebration is based around the painfully naff ‘Rastarant’ – naffness aside, expect 15 street food trucks and stalls serving a variety of Caribbean food from traditional: ‘Reggae’ slow cooked, smoked jerk chicken, ‘Calypso’ Jamaican curry goat, to modern takes on Caribbean inspired dishes, such as: Venezuelan arepas with sticky pulled pork & crispy fried plantains; ‘Dreadlocks:’ Mexican beef brisket tacos & red hot tomato salsa; ‘Limbo:’ Cajun spiced frog’s legs; ‘Creole Soul:’charcoal-grilled flatbreads with chili lamb skewers. Veggies are catered for with vegan ‘Rasta Pasta:’ marinated tofu crumble & wild mushrooms.Jerk Chicken - White Men Can't Jerk, Caribbean Food

Sweet tooths should check out the desserts: ‘Island Feast:’ grilled pineapple custard tarts and ‘Tropical Paradise:’ coconut & banana-cream crêpes.image

The Urban Food Fest premium bar will be on hand with craft beers, cider, international wines and Prosecco, alongside bespoke carnival cocktails including the ‘Levi’s Roots Love:’ Caribbean rum, coconut water & lime cocktail and the ‘Shoreditch Carnival:’ Firestarter vodka, raspberry & summer strawberries topped with vodka foam.

To kick start Carnival go east side for a taste of the Caribbean at Urban Food Fest.
