If you are planning a trip to Zürich over the coming summer months be sure to check out Zürich’s Baur au Lac, frequented by the worlds’ jet set and considered one of Europe’s grandest hotels. From the 15th June to 23rd August Baur au Lac will be hosting Art in the Park XIII, British Pop Artist; Allen Jones is the focus of this year’s exhibition. Six of Jones’, large, stylized sculptures, including ‘Man About Town’ and ‘Echo,’ will feature in the hotels’ landscaped grounds.

Jones, a contemporary of David Hockney – both are Royal College of Art alumni and credited with playing a key role in the birth of British Pop Art, enraged feminists during the 1970’s with his notorious sculptures featuring submissive women depicted as a hat stand, table and chair. Jones has always insisted that the lifelike scantily clad sculptures are protests against sexism.Allen Jones Sculpture - Art in the Park, Zurich

The sculptures exhibited at Art in the Park XIII, are a lot less confrontational than his 70’s offerings, Jones’ focus is on abstract sinuous forms interlocking sheets of painted steel.

Art in the Park has been a well –established part of the Zürich art scene since 2003 and coincides with the start of Art Basel, the annual event is created by Gigi Kracht, wife of Andrea Kracht, the sixth –generation owner of Baur au Lac, and curated in collaboration with Galerie Gmurzynska.Allen Jones Sculpture - Art in the Park - Zurich
