The Baobab tree is capable of surviving great drought and lives hundreds of years. Considered a sacred tree in Africa, the leaves are used like spinach to cure diarrhea and reduce fever, while the seeds and fruit are utilised to make coffee. Cream of Tartar comes from the seed pods, the inner bark provides moisture; which contains up to 40% water. The tree hollows are used for shelter.

Scientific name: Adansonia Digitata (“Upside Down Tree”)

Origin: Africa, though varieties are also found in Madagascar, Australia and Vietnam.
