When thinking of French food hamburgers do not immediately spring to mind, Big Fernand is about to change perceptions with its distinctively French hamburger. Founders Steve Burggraf, Alexandre Auriac and Guillaume Pagliano, first launched Big Fernand in 2012 and now have eight sites in France; three in Paris, a further three in Parisian suburbs, one in Lille and one in Lyon. There are plans for 20 new openings during 2015.

Big Fernand are about to make their London debut with the opening of a new hamburger joint in Fitzrovia, scheduled to open on the 10th March. Big Fernand’s hamburger game is certainly on point with artisan buns, made in London using a French baker’s secret recipe, locally-sourced Charolais and Aberdeen Angus meat, unpasteurised French cheeses such as Tomme de Savoie, Raclette or Fourme d’Ambert as well as freshly chopped herbs and home-made sauces created by Chef Thomas Boutin. In addition to the obligatory beef, lamb, chicken and veal are also on the menu.

To celebrate the opening Big Fernand are handing out 100 FREE hamburgés from 12 mid day on the 10th, 11th and 12th March, to be in with a chance simply head down to Big Fernand and….this is the fun part, reinforce that rather tired French stereotype and don either a stripy t-shirt or a moustache real/fake. If you want to be even more of a French cliché then feel free to combine the moustache with your stripy t-shirt – there is no mention of bonus points for berets and a string of onions slung artfully round your neck while you clutch a baguette!

Bon appétit!
