I once worked with someone who always took a series of mini –breaks as opposed to the obligatory 7 -14 day holiday; he reasoned that taking mini-breaks was a useful way of reducing work monotony and he always had something to look forward to, he had a point. However, a mini-break is only worthwhile if the destination is relatively close. Gibraltar would be ideal either as a short break destination in its own right or as part of a mini –break itinerary encompassing Andalucia or Morocco.

Situated just a two hour and 50 minute flight away (from London), Gibraltar’s sandy beaches, sub –tropical, Mediterranean weather and charming old town is easily accessible. Despite its very close proximity to Spain, English is the official language – so no need to pack a pesky language phrase book. As Gibraltar forms part of Britain’s overseas territory, the British influence is very much evident: where you will find old school, Victorian red post boxes, Winston Churchill Avenue – an arterial thoroughfare connected with Spain. Also, not forgetting the education system and the police force which are mirrored on the British models.

Gibraltar’s fantastically warm all –year weather provides perfect conditions for its semi-tropical fauna and flora; there are over 500 different species of flowering plants growing on the Rock of Gibraltar. Also found on the Rock is Gibraltar’s famous primates, the Barbary Macaques.image

For accommodation, why not stay at the newly –opened Sunborn Yacht Hotel? The Sunborn is Gibraltar’s only five –star property just a short walk from the old town, and set within a 142 –metre luxury cruise liner in the thriving Ocean Village.

To reduce ‘work monotony’ why not book a Gibraltar mini –break?image
