Despite the recent excess of Christmas I am always open to a spot of fine dining which is a great antidote for the inevitable ‘January blues’, this January sees the launch of Launceston Places’ affordable lunchtime tasting menu – entitled the 404 Menu. Priced at £40, the menu created by Executive Chef Tim Allen (formerly at Whatley Manor, L’Ortalan and The Landmark) typifies Tim’s seasonally –inspired British cooking and comprises of; four courses, amuse bouche, pre-dessert and petit fours.

Each course is served as a small plate, which is an ideal opportunity to sample Tim’s creative dishes; munch your way through a pre-starter of Parmesan with onion and ceps, followed by quail with cauliflower, morteau sausage and grapes.

The 404 Menu just keeps on giving! There is a fish course of cod served with crispy egg, greens and mustard before the innovative main dish of partridge with sourdough puree, cured foie gras and smoked cavennes onions.

Your sweet tooth will be sated with a pre-dessert of orange, ginger and buttermilk. A serving of Grand Cru chocolate, served with pear and grue follows. The sweet dishes conclude with petit fours.
